Shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy is a fairly new therapy in the healthcare industry.  Most clinics are using it to address and heal old chronic injuries that plague many patients.

For example shoulder injuries that happened years ago that now limit the movement of the joint.  Maybe it's hard to lay on that shoulder when trying to sleep.  Shock wave may be the therapy to help.  This same type of tendon or ligament damage may affect the elbow, the knee, or on the bottom of the foot.  That condition is known as plantar fasciitis.

The shockwave machine introduces a tapping type shockwave that awakens the body's response to start healing that area.  I like to think of it as a controlled mild trauma that breaks down scar tissue and reduces the thickened tendons and ligaments.  The protein called growth hormone is released from the tissue with this therapy. This is the body's healing protein.  Each therapy session lasts around 5-8 minutes.  After a series of treatments many patients feel less pain in that area, more range of motion, and less tenderness with pressure over the old injury.
